Worth stopping for

  1. Pali

The junction where the hill road begins.

  2. Jawai Bandh

Leopard hills, a short detour south of the route.

Before you set off

  • Non-Jain visitors are admitted only from 12:00. Leaving Jodhpur at 8:30 lands you exactly right.
  • Leather items — belts and wallets included — are not permitted inside the temple.
  • A photography permit is bought at the desk; it is inexpensive and worth it.
  • Kumbhalgarh is only 50 minutes further on. Almost nobody regrets adding it.

Questions about this route

What time should we leave Jodhpur for Ranakpur?

Around 8:30. The drive is three hours and the temple opens to visitors at noon, so an earlier start just means waiting at the gate.

Can we do Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh in one day?

Yes, if you leave Jodhpur by 6:30. Ranakpur at noon, lunch, Kumbhalgarh from 15:00, and back in Jodhpur by about 22:00 — or better, carry on to Udaipur for the night.
