Top 10 Places to Visit in Jodhpur: The Ultimate Blue City Itinerary

6 April 20262 min readJain Travels

Mehrangarh to Kaylana Lake — the ten places worth your time in Jodhpur, and how to get between them without losing half the day to parking.

Jodhpur, the iconic Blue City of Rajasthan, is a treasure trove of history, culture and majestic architecture. If you're planning a visit, exploring the city properly requires reliable transport. At Jain Travels we offer local cab services, Tempo Travellers for groups, and luxury Urbania vans to make your sightseeing seamless.

The ten worth your time

1. Mehrangarh Fort — the crown jewel of Jodhpur, offering panoramic views over the blue houses. Go at opening time; the light and the queue are both better.

2. Umaid Bhawan Palace — a magnificent blend of royal heritage and modern luxury. Part residence, part hotel, part museum.

3. Jaswant Thada — known as the Taj Mahal of Marwar, a stunning marble cenotaph beside a quiet lake.

4. Mandore Gardens — ancient temples, cenotaphs and a peaceful green retreat, nine kilometres north of the city.

5. Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar) & Sardar Market — perfect for spices, handicrafts and textiles. Busiest and best in the early evening.

6. Toorji Ka Jhalra — a restored step well and an architectural marvel in the heart of the old city.

7. Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park — reclaimed desert landscape below the fort. Excellent for walkers and photographers.

8. Kaylana Lake — the best sunset spot outside the city bustle, about eight kilometres west.

9. Machia Biological Park — ideal for families and anyone travelling with children.

10. Balsamand Lake — a serene twelfth-century artificial lake surrounded by gardens.

How to actually get around

Getting between these is the part people underestimate. The old city's streets are narrow, parking near the fort and the clock tower is genuinely difficult, and a full day on foot in April is not enjoyable.

Booking a local sedan or SUV with Jain Travels gets you a driver who knows which gate to drop at and where to wait — which saves more time than any itinerary. Travelling as a bigger family or group? A Force Urbania or a Tempo Traveller keeps everyone together and takes the luggage.

A workable one-day order

Mehrangarh at opening, Jaswant Thada immediately after (it's a five-minute drive), Toorji Ka Jhalra and the clock tower for late morning, lunch, Mandore in the afternoon, and Kaylana Lake for sunset. Umaid Bhawan fits before lunch if you start early.

Two days lets you add Rao Jodha, Machia and Balsamand without rushing.
